Biography
Assemblyman George Latimer is serving in his fourth term, first elected in 2004, representing the Westchester communities of Larchmont, Mamaroneck Town and Village, Rye City, Port Chester, Rye Brook and part of New Rochelle. Latimer, 58, possesses a varied career in business and in public service, spanning two decades.
The Assemblyman resides in the City of Rye in Westchester County, since 1982. He is a third-generation Westchester native, born November 22, 1953 in Mount Vernon to the late Stanley and Loretta (Miner) Latimer.
By profession, he is a marketing executive with over 20 years of experience working with major corporations including Nestle, AT&T, ITT, IBM and the former Shearson Lehman. He has direct involvement with project development in numerous sites nationwide.
Latimer has served in elected public office on the City, County and State levels, including a four-year term on the Rye City Council, and for 13 years as Westchester County Legislator, while maintaining his business career for the majority of that time. From 1998 to 2001, he served as Chairman of the Westchester County Board of Legislators, the first Democrat to hold that position. He was elected to a two-year term as Westchester County Democratic Chairman, from 2002 to 2004.
In his years in public office, Latimer has established a solid record of accomplishment, sponsoring legislation and advancing funding for environmental issues (including protection of the Long Island Sound), housing, transportation, healthcare, lower property taxes and a myriad of other issues. In the Assembly, he is the author of over 20 new laws in topics as diverse as establishing provisions to allow Freedom of Information requests (FOIL) to be requested and responded by e-mail, launching a program to increase organ donations, and preventing radio piracy. He currently serves on the Assembly committees on Transportation, Environmental Conservation, Labor, Local Governments, Insurance and Government Operations, and is the Chair of the Assembly’s Commission on Government Administration.
He has received public recognition and awards from numerous Westchester and Hudson Valley organizations for his work in these areas, and has been cited with awards from the Sarah Neuman Center, the Washingtonville Housing Alliance, Congregation Anshe Sholom in New Rochelle, the Port Chester/Rye Brook Chamber of Commerce, the Mamaroneck Chamber of Commerce, LMC-TV, Council of Community Services in Port Chester-Rye Town, Helping Hands and the NY State Association of School Psychologists.
Assemblyman Latimer is a graduate of Mt. Vernon public schools, and holds a B.A. from Fordham University, and a Masters Degree in Public Administration from New York University’s Wagner School. He is an active volunteer in his home community in Rye.
